“Am…” His hand rubs over my hair. “You’ve gotta go. I’m fucking drunk and I’ve been missing you for months. All I could think about up there was you.”
Rating: 3.5-4-stars. Contemporary Romance. Standalone
SWEET. TOUCHING. HEARTBREAKING. I really really enjoyed Ella’s THE BOY NEXT DOOR. Dash and Amelia are friends since early childhood. Soon after her mom’s death, her dad moved them to a new place where she became friends with the siblings next door. Dash is not only her first crush but her first love as well despite him being a bit older.
“Dash and I have always teased, but lately it feels different. Every word between us has this . . . echo. Like there’s more to what we’re saying than what we’re saying.”
As they get older their bond grew stronger and Am developed feelings never knowing how Dash feels. But one day all comes to a crashing end and Amelia is left behind with a broken shattered heart.
“None of your feelings matter! He’s not yours! Grow up! I know I need to. I’ll be sixteen in a few weeks. I’ve got to stop aching for things that I can’t have. Like Mom.”
Talk about heartache. I felt so bad for Am and was curious wth Dash took off without coming back or reaching out to her. Fast forward, Am got a great intern position . . . until she saw her new boss is: Dash!
Prepare yourself for secrets being revealed and wounds reopen but it’s SO WORTH IT! I love these two and they deserved a HEA. If you’re in the mood for a sweet romance with some heartache then I can only say, give The Boy Next Door a chance!
“Not everyone is meant to be happy, Amelia.”
